A Moment in My life when I wish I had a Photo
During my senior year of High School I took a trip with some other members of my class to Europe and more specifically, Greece and Turkey. I went on this trip with the mind set of not needing a camera. I guess I just assumed that other people would take pictures and then I could retrieve them in some form. Needless to say this was not the case. One of the moments of this trip that I truly wish I had a camera was the morning our ship was approaching Istanbul. From the ship we could see the sun rising over some hills and mountains with these beautiful buildings. They all had a red tint to them because of the blood red/orange light from the sun. All of the mosques were in the midst of their prayer our as well, so over the loud speakers there was this prayer call that was playing throughout the city. At first it sounded somewhat ghostly, but then as we got closer it was actually quite beautiful. In this moment was when I had come to realize that I was about to enter a completely different culture that I really didn't know anything about. I just wish I was able to capture that moment to share with others and even just to look back and reflect upon.
Why I am Taking this Class
I am taking this class for a number of reasons. The first is in order to fulfill a discovery course requirement. I decided that when deciding what course to take I had one thought in my mind. "Jason do something outside of your comfort zone, take a class that you don't really know that much about." I came across this class and decided that I have never really been one to take many pictures, but my family has always enjoyed to take pictures to relive certain memories. Photography has always been an interesting subject to explore, the field is constantly changing and evolving and seems to be a great method of artistic expression. I expect throughout the semester to learn how to take the best possible pictures and learn how to alter them to portray certain emotions. I am also hoping that Julee inspires me to take more photos throughout my life.
