Chapter 1 summary

This chapter of the book explains many of the basic elements of digital photography. Starting with getting to know and understand the different components of your camera. Some of these important components contain the simple functionality of your camera. For instance most Digital Cameras use memory SD cards in order to store the pictures that you have taken. Most run on either rechargeable or regular batteries. The majority of the chapter discusses the different shutter speeds and how they can affect the outcome of a photo you take. The shutter speed controls how long the shutter remains open, therefore manipulating the amount of light that your camera is exposed to. It is broken down into fractions of a second, the faster the subject the faster the shutter speed. The other key tool used to control the light is the aperture setting on the camera. The aperture setting controls the depth of field in which your lens is focusing. The shutter speed and aperture setting always can effect one another.
The faster the shutter speed, the smaller the aperture setting should be.
